You can get what you want.

Focusing on my goals

“You are essentially who you create yourself to be and all that occurs in your life is the result of your own making.”                                                                           ― Stephen Richards

I believe in the power of positive thinking. If you focus on the worst case scenario that's where you'll end up. But if you focus on how grateful for all that you have and hope for good things to come your way you're putting yourself on the right path. I keep visual reminders around me all the time to help me focus on what my goals are. That's why I create vision boards.

Positive thoughts about writing

A vision board is a collage that includes photos, words, colors and other images about what you desire to have, do or be in your  life.  The idea is to create a visual reminder of  your goals for you to reflect on each day.  Because when you surround yourself with  images and words about what you want, your life will change to match those  desires.  The power is both in the creation of and reflection on your vision board.

Directions:
1. Create a list of 30 things you want to have, want to be or want to  do in the next 90 days, the next year or the next 5 years.  No idea is too crazy.  Dream big!  Reflect on how these “things” will feel when they are your reality.

2. When you were reflecting on your feelings what colors did they evoke in you?  Warm and sunny? (yellows and oranges)  Cool and blissful? (blues and greys)  Excited and energetic? (pinks and reds)  Or did you just dream about your favorite colors.  Choose 2-3 watercolor paints.  You might want to choose analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel) to start.  Squeeze a small amount on your plate.  Add water to liquefy the colors.

3.  Wet your paper with clean water leaving some white spaces.  Begin to drop color in letting it flow on the wet paper and mix itself.  Continue painting until you are content with your background.  This will help unify your collage.

4.  Go back to your list and get a magazine.  Begin to tear out  images and words that reflect your desires.  Get a big stack and don’t restrict yourself to one idea or theme.  Look over my stamps, maps and other items to see if  you see anything from your list.

5.  Begin to go through your images and experiment with different ways to place them on your paper.  Don’t glue yet, just trim items, arrange, overlap, rearrange and add more.

6.  When you’re ready start gluing items down.  Make sure you put glue both on the paper and the item to be glued.  You can smooth it with a brayer or your  hand.

7. Finish your piece by painting in more colors, stamping words and adding images.  You’re done when you feel you’re done.  I still add images to  older vision boards.

8.  Place or hang your vision board in a prominent place for you.  Maybe next to your bed, across from your desk, on your refrigerator or anywhere that you’ll see it several times a day.

9.  The power is in the reflection.  Take a few moments several times a day to  look at your vision board and imagine how it will feel once you have what you desire.  Imagine  how all of your senses will experience these goals. Consider keeping a journal as you begin to see changes in your life as your dreams become reality.

  1. Hello Karen! I'm stopping from UBC!

I LOVE vision boards! Crazy but true - I use my fridge as one of my vision boards. Everything I desire right now is posted on the side of my fridge...and I have super cook magnets of every place I've been to as well as positive affirmation magnets :-)

    Nice post
